Sweetfield Corriedale Stud is operated by Bron Ellis and family at Mount Moriac, west of Geelong
We have been breeding award-winning Corriedales since 1998. Our aim is to breed Corriedales of an excellent standard and sustain the breed’s true features.
For us, this means a good carcase and body structure, a heavy and bright fleece with a long, dense staple, as well as renowned mothering and self-replacing abilities. We are a self-replacing flock, only purchasing new rams every few years.
We select good carcase and eye muscle traits, as well mid-micron wool with bold character and softness. As Corriedales are a dual-purpose breed, it’s very important to have these qualities in today’s industry.
Sweetfield has enjoyed consistent success in the show ring over many years. Our show team has performed particularly well at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show, Sheepvention in Hamilton and the Royal Melbourne Show, winning a number of Champions including two Supreme Exhibits.
We will continue to do our very best to promote the breed to secure its future.

Corriedales have been bred in Australia for more than 145 years, having evolved from selectively cross breeding Lincoln and Merino sheep. As a self-replacing and dual-purpose breed, they are capable of meeting demands of both the meat and wool markets.
Australian Corriedales are robust and large-framed, which makes them suitable for a wide range of climates, including cold and wet conditions to areas of low rainfall. They produce heavy, well-shaped carcases with good eye muscle area, adding to carcase value.
Fleeces are dense and bright with a bold crimp. They are mid-micron and soft handling, and are a favourite among spinners and felters. A typical fleece weighs around 7kg, yielding around 75%.
One of the Corriedale’s greatest traits are its sound mothering ability. Ewes are excellent mothers and lambing percentages exceed 100%. The lambs’ thick skins with dense wool supports good survival rates in harsh conditions.
Corriedales are quiet natured and low maintenance.
